After the Storm Breaks

Photographer Isaiah Cole came to Mississippi to document what Hurricane Katrina left behind. He didn't expect Boone Whitaker—angry, beautiful, and fighting a truth he's not ready to face.

A fender-bender becomes a collision of two worlds: New York sophistication and small-town expectations, openness and denial, a man comfortable in his identity and another terrified of his own desires. When their attraction ignites into something neither can ignore, Boone must choose: keep hiding or risk everything for a chance at real love. But in a place where being different means being other, where family approval comes with conditions, and where the past refuses to stay buried, choosing authenticity might cost Boone the only home he's ever known.

From the wreckage of Katrina's aftermath to the promise of new beginnings, this is a story about the courage to rebuild—not just communities, but lives, families, and hearts.

"St John refuses to offer easy answers, instead giving us the messy, complicated truth of two men learning to love themselves before they can fully love each other."

About the Author

Remy St. John is a writer of contemporary gay romances set in the Deep South. A native of Louisiana and a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Remy lived in New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005. He draws inspiration from the rich culture, complex history, and resilient spirit of the region.

Remy's debut novel After the Storm Breaks explores enemies-to-lovers journeys, cultural clashes, coming-out arcs, interracial love, and the power of chosen family. Readers can expect high-heat chemistry, tender vulnerability, and happily-ever-afters that feel earned and authentic.

When not writing about men falling in love in the Deep South, Remy enjoys researching family trees, making scrapbooks and spending time with his partner at home in Baton Rouge and Chicago, and their two corgis (Beauregard and Bella).
